On Saturday, February 12, 2011 the Georgia Mothers Association gathered for its annual general business meeting and luncheon. State President Emily Gunnells welcomed members and guests. Five outstanding mothers were honored for their dedication to strengthening their family, home and community.
Georgia Mothers Association is proud to announce Terri Thomas Brown from Stone Mountain as the 2011 Georgia Mother of the Year. Terri has been married to Cedric for 28 years and they have three daughters: Niquelle, age 24, Sheereen Brown, age 21 and Raianna, age 15. Terri has a Master of Science degree in Biology from Clark Atlanta University. Terri coordinates the partnership between the Fernbank Science Center and the National Space Biomedical Research Institute Morehouse School of Medicine Education and Public Outreach Program. Terri has been a wonderful role model to her daughters. The two oldest are both engineering students at Georgia Institute of Technology and the youngest is in high school and enjoys the arts. They all love to volunteer in their community.
Georgia’s Young Mother of the Year for 2011 is Brandi Allgood from Covington and she has been married to Dwayne for 14 years and has three children: Logan, age 11 , Hudson , age 9 , and Addisyn, age 5. Brandi’s son Hudson has juvenile diabetes and she helps organize fundraisers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Brandi is a registered nurse at the local Children’s Hospital and is very active in her children’s school and activities.
Honor Young Mother, Karen Hutto from Dacula is the mother of three boys: Nathan , age 17, Andrew, age 15, and Samuel, age 8. She has been married to Joey for 23 years and is very active in her church. Karen is also a published author.
Honor Young Mother, Jessica Peterson from Monroe is the mother of one year old daughter, Scout and is married to Dustin. Jessica was Teacher of the Year for a Middle School and is currently working on her Doctorate of Education and she enjoys the outdoors.
Honor Young Mother, Tara Trobaugh from Ringgold is the mother of four year old Nathan and one year old Teagan and she has another baby on the way. Tara and Kevin have been married for 11 years. She started an in home music class named Bumble Bee Music and has a masters in music education.
The 2011 Georgia Mother of the Year and the 2011 Georgia Young Mother of the Year are excited about attending the American Mothers Inc. National Convention in Utah this Spring. They will be wonderful representatives for the State of Georgia.
Also honored at the Georgia State Annual Meeting, was the 2010 Georgia Mother of the Year, Marie Corrigan of Atlanta and the 2010 Georgia Young Mother of the Year, Pam Tokarz, of Snellville. They each shared the exciting adventures of their honored year, especially representing Georgia in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
The Georgia Mothers Association is devoted to strengthening homes and families in Georgia.
