Making the World a Better Place

The Golden Rule Movement provides a platform for women who embody the selfless, caring spirit of motherhood, and who are using that maternal energy to make the world a better place.

This month, The Golden Rule Movement would like to highlight the Appoquinimink School District Book Mobile program. For 13 years, the Book Mobile program has fostered a love of reading and provided books to 6,446 children. The program is run by the Silver Lake Elementary librarian Jodie Klein, who is a mother of two.

Jodies says “As a Librarian, I LOVE to read and I want to share that love of reading with everyone. The Book Mobile is the perfect place to do that. To see the excitement on the kids faces when they get to choose a new book is priceless. They can’t wait to sit and read! We collect gently used and new books all school year long in order to hand out to kids during the summer. It’s a win-win for all involved because as people donate their books, they can choose new ones to read. Not only that, but the people donating are sharing their love of reading as well. All the books that I get are usually from families whose kids have outgrown the books and they are ready to pass them on to new kids to read.”

For more information about the program please check out the Appoquinimink School District Book Mobile program.

The Golden Rule Movement plans to highlight individuals and organizations that are spreading kindness by doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you know of such an individual or organization, please let us know by emailing: awards@americanmothers.org.
