The Good Mother

The following clip is from a documentary film directed by Sarah Klein and produced by Anne Labro about the history of American Mothers and the selection of the National Young Mother of the Year.

....every year, mothers from all over America leave their children behind and set out to the country's heartland to compete for the title of Mother of the Year. One of these hopeful candidates will go on to impress the judges and become the reigning representative of American motherhood. What does it take to become America's best mom?

This film is a production of Compagnie Phares et Balises, Redglass Pictures, and Speakeasy Docs. In co-production with Arte France. In association with RTBF (Belgium), TSR (Switzerland), YLE (Finland), SBS (Australia), SVT (Sweden), VPRO (Holland).  The film has been shown in film festivals across the United States and internationally.  It is titled "SuperMom" in Europe.

I am anxious to see the rest of this. Those mother's leaving their families for a few days seems symbolic of what it means to be a mother; letting your children go.
