The Many Facets of Motherhood, Mary Cutter

The Many Facets of Motherhood, Mary Cutter

As children of God, we are all gems in his sight.  As the potter molds the clay and makes a vessel according to the quality of the clay, so the expert diamond cutter cuts and shapes a diamond according to the strength and purity of the stone.  Great wisdom and experience is required to make the gem the best it can be.  Knowing that our God is all-loving and all-wise, we can trust Him to cut where best.

(Amen from the audience)

The cuts God makes are sometimes painful while at the same time wonderful.  Such as the birth of a child, or the passing of a loved one.  But those cuts although sometimes painful, create facets which let in the light. When the light is admitted into the stone through the facet, the well cut stone reflects the light beautifully.  Without the light shining into the stone through though those facets and reflecting back out through a

different facet, the gem is no more than a valuable rock.

Jesus is the light of the world!  If HE is also the light of your life, he will reflect HIS light through you to make you a real treasure to those around you.

Those facets He cuts into our lives allow us to become the servant of others just as He was the servant of others. Our time as a Mother is not our own.  It belongs to the family and friends God has given us.  We will find ourselves putting our own schedule on hold and being a wife to our husbands, a nursemaid to our child, a teacher, a comforter, a cook, a dishwasher, a seamstress, a taxicab driver, a confidant, a mender of broken hearts and skinned knees, and hundreds of other things.

A friend of mine was listening to her 4 year old daughter discuss her life goals.  When asked why she did not list being a mother, the child explained that being a mother wasn't a real job.  Incensed, my friend started listing the things a mother does and the importance of doing those jobs well; so much so that the child was overwhelmed.  After contemplating this for a while, the child said, "I think I want to grow up to be an aunt!"

According to Proverbs, if we correct our children, they will give us comfort and delight.  If we do our jobs well, our children will arise and call us blessed.  Our husbands too will praise us among their peers.

Yes, Motherhood is work.  But the rewards are SO much worth it.
