Serena Wu of Pennsylvania is 2026 National 5th Grade Essay Winner

August 19, 2025

Serena Wu of Pennsylvania was named the 2026 5th Grade Essay Winner by American Mothers Inc.® and was honored at the AMI 2026 National Convention in McClean, VA. Born in 2014 and raised in a bilingual household in Wayne, Pennsylvania, Serena Wu is a student at Wayne Elementary whose accomplishments span academics, athletics, and the arts. A member of the school’s gifted program, Serena reads far beyond her grade level, reflecting a lifelong love of books and learning. Her analytical strengths are equally notable: she has earned national mathematics honors through competitions such as Math Kangaroo and the Beestar National Math Competition. She also contributed to her robotics team, the Legendary Dragons, achieving an outstanding score at the FIRST LEGO League Pennsylvania East competition.

Beyond STEM, Serena is a dedicated athlete who competes in tennis, swimming, and soccer, and she is an accomplished musician who plays both piano and violin. American Mothers Inc.® was so excited to present her with a new violin generously donated by an anonymous donor at the national convention. And though she is an accomplished athlete and musician, her most defining quality is her compassion. From assisting at her mother’s daycare to becoming the youngest teaching assistant at the Main Line Chinese Culture Center, Serena has developed a strong sense of responsibility and empathy. Inspired by her grandfather’s legacy as a surgeon, she hopes to pursue a future in medicine. Serena is determined to make a meaningful difference in the world by helping others and saving lives.

American Mothers Inc.® is so proud to honor Serena and her mother, and can’t wait to see her change the world for the better!
