This update provided by Emily Brooks, 2018 North Dakota Mother of the Year.
Around the holidays, we baked treats at the Ronald McDonald House for the guests to enjoy. We used the “My Mother’s Muffins” recipe from the The Pioneer Woman cookbook I received as a gift at the AMI convention last spring. I didn’t realize she had signed the book until one of the other members pointed it out!

Recently, some of the American Mothers from Fargo helped setup for a fundraising event for The Next Step ND. The Next Step helps bridge the gap between the services survivors of human trafficking in North Dakota receive, and being able to support themselves independently. This was the second year of the Purses for a Purpose fundraiser. After the interview that I did along with another planning committee member, a call was received from an anonymous donor who pledged to match 100% of the funds raised at the event!

The purses collected at the event are filled with personal care items that shelters aren’t always able to provide along with a hand carved cross from a men’s prayer group, some scripture, and a message from us to let the victims know that care about them. This is the first item that victims will receive when they are rescued from human trafficking in ND.
