I love to read. I love that my children love to read. I love that my children still want me to read with and to them. I have found that sharing a book with my children opens the door to new conversations paths and sometimes helps me to find the right words for complex situations.
During our annual summer trip to the beach we took turns reading to each other from the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio. I highly recommend this book. It is filled with many wonderful topics for discussions with children.
My favorite topics included the reinforcement of the ideas that, “You shouldn’t say anything about someone that you wouldn’t say if they were there.” and “You should always treat others the way you would like to be treated.” I think the world would be a kinder place if everyone embraced these ideas.
