What is your favorite memory as a mother?
I have many favorites but I absolutely love when we’re all loaded in the 12 passenger van after having gone out to eat. We’re all singing “Down By the Bay” and laughing at the silly rhymes (or not rhymes) and trying to harmonize and jazz up the song. Pretty much when everyone is jiving.
Are there any celebrity moms you would rate as a “Perfect 10?” Why?
Nope! I believe moms (celebrity or not) are doing their best and we will fall short time and time again. No perfect 10s but a lot of awesome moms.
What is the best or worst “mom purchase” you’ve ever made and why?
I love to buy new toys for the family and usually I nail it but I will never live down the grass sled. We lived in Arizona and didn’t have any snow so the grass sled seemed like the perfect option to experience the joy of sledding. Not so much!
If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what would you ask?
How much does God have His hand in my life and how much does He leave it up to me?
What is the craziest thing one of your kids has done?
I’m probably going to get kicked out of this whole “competition” but when my fifth child was two I had gotten him out of the shower and started to help another child with something else. Before I knew it my neighbor was knocking on my door with holding my naked boy’s hand. She had found him naked, in the middle of the road, petting road kill. Triple whammy! Huge mom fail and fortunately I have awesome neighbors who have my back.
What was your biggest misconception about being a mom?
How different each child would be. What discipline works on one child wouldn’t work on all the others. One child needs more hugs while another child needs more space while yet another child needs more listening. With seven kiddos I’ve had to be on my game for many years and have been able to learn so many different ways of raising children. I love learning from other moms who are a few years ahead of me in the game. They give me fresh ideas to try on my wide variety of kids.
What is the most useless or unique talent you have?
Probably balloon twisting which is totally not useless but absolutely unique. I have used this talent in so many different ways. I learned so I could be the “cool mom on the block” and it has given me so many more service opportunities that I never even would have thought of.
