What is your favorite memory as a mother?

My kids are in the adult stage of their lives now and I am so glad that they have successful, challenging careers and that they have both found someone special to share their lives with. They have a belief in God, which is important to me, and they have a good relationship with each other. Through various organizations they volunteer their talents and abilities. They have seem how this helps and affects other lives as well as their own. All of these things make me very proud of them and thus this is my favorite mom memory.

What is the best or worst “mom purchase” you’ve ever made and why?

The best mom/family purchase we have ever made was a boat. We have had a boat our entire kids lives. They learned how to swim, tube, ski and board over the years and we are still all perfecting our talents. The boat has brought many family sharing and bonding times and a way for all of us to relax together. As our family has grown in size and number we have now purchased a larger one, which provides new opportunities and challenges for us. Now, as in the future, the boat will provide us with many fun family moments.

What was your biggest misconception about being a mom?

The big misconception for me was that I thought I had to be wonder mom and try and do it all. My mom had always taken care of our family plus helped on the farm and been a good neighbor to all-thus this is what I thought I had to do. My family was my priority and as the kids grew they could see their help was needed and asked for. They learned good teamwork skills and that each person is important. The commitment to family and doing what is right became part of their life.
