What is your favorite memory as a mother?
My son Chase has a number of developmental and medical issues and was granted a Make A Wish trip in 2017 to Disney World. It was a tremendous amount of work to coordinate all of the facets of keeping him safe in transit and while there. After a year of planning, seeing him light up over and over again when he saw his favorite characters, when he rode on the rides, and when he pulled us all in for hugs was simply priceless. Truly the memory of a lifetime
What is the best or worst “mom purchase” you’ve ever made and why?
The best mom purchase I ever made was my minivan. Cliche, I know, but it has been a life saver transporting the kids and their friends around! I have used it to haul lumber, a queen size mattress, and multiple bikes, not to mention, the day to day gear of two busy boys. I really, really love my van!
What is the craziest thing one of your kids has done?
My oldest son Zach (14) is a bit of a daredevil and not afraid of much. Last summer, he was paddleboarding (for the second time ever) on the coast of southern GA. As he and his friend were about to leave the beach, they saw a family that had been swept out to sea in a riptide. They got on their paddleboards and went on to rescue four people. What we didn’t know was that a couple weeks before, someone had drowned in that same spot – crazy for sure.
What was your biggest misconception about being a mom?
My biggest misconception was the future life I planned with my kids. I had so many hopes and dreams about what I would teach them, where we would travel, and what they would accomplish. When my youngest son was born with severe medical issues it quickly changed my perception. Life was suddenly about survival, and rejoicing in the tiniest of improvements and milestones. I learned to be grateful for each day. I also learned to make the most of every day with my kids.
What is the most useless or unique talent you have?
I used to be a forensic research biologist and can sequence DNA from an exploded pipe bomb.
