What surprises you most about being a mom?

What surprises me the most about being a mom is looking at my kids and being amazed that I am the mother of such amazing, smart, talented, God-loving children. Seeing my children demonstrate a life of love and servitude via impartation from my husband and I blows my mind.

Who has been impactful in your journey as a mother? What lessons do you carry with you and share often through motherhood?

My mother has been an impactful part of my journey as mother. My mother, being a listening ear and sounding board of truth, has guided me and kept me grounded in motherhood. One of the lessons I have learned is to listen to your heart and listen to the voice of God. All of my children are different and unique. Because they are all different, the way I interact with them must be different as well.

What continues to inspire you in your motherhood journey?

My inspiration in this journey of motherhood is to know that my children watch everything that I do. My youngest daughter wants to do everything I do. She puts pictures of me in her room, she sleeps with a pillow that has my face on it. Leaving a legacy for my children is an inspiration. I want them to remember that their mother loved God, my husband, my family, and serving people.

How has being a mom shaped your life?

Knowing that I must lead a life of transparency, truth, and integrity has shaped me as a mother.  I not only have biological children but I have children in the community, I have children via ministry, people that call me “Mama Dee” because of my food, and my nurturing spirit.

Share one of your favorite stories from motherhood?

One of my favorite stories from motherhood would be that my last birthday I had the honor of all of my kids—whether by birth, marriage, adoption, community, or ministry—here in one house with me and we laughed, played, ate, cried, took pictures and enjoyed our space to be family.
