What surprises you most about being a mom?
I was so surprised by the intense love and responsibility I instantly felt toward my daughter. I am surprised daily by her independence, her selflessness to others and animals, and her patience with me as we both navigate life obstacles together. It’s crazy how your priorities shift the moment you hold your child and the outflow of unconditional love for something so innocent and perfect. I am surprised by the constant worrying of motherhood but I have also read that’s called being a helicopter parent and I know that will age as she will.
Who has been impactful in your journey as a mother?
My mother is the one who has been the most impactful as she was a single mother for a period of time too. She has taught me to be resilient, independent, and a goal achiever and has been my biggest supporter, even when I went behind her back and joined the Navy. Through positive and negative times growing up, I have used every experience as a life lesson. I often find myself saying this too shall pass as a mantra to motherhood.
Share one of your favorite stories from motherhood.
My favorite story is the chocolate hand print that still resides in my daughter’s playroom. Motherhood has taught me not to sweat the small stuff as my mother would say. I joke that we will frame it because it’s the cutest, purest form of childhood. It brings me joy and laughter when I see it and as much as I thought I would be upset it has brought more joy to the small things in life.
