March 28, 2023

About

Erin Sedlacek is a wife and mother of six. She and her husband, Jon, farm with his parents near Tabor, South Dakota. Their home on the farm is made of field stone constructed in the 1800s, and their children are the fifth generation of the family to reside there. Erin can regularly be found outdoors running farm equipment, chasing cows, or working in her garden with her family. She enjoys scrapbooking, sewing, and quilting. Her children Maggie, 10, George, 9, Jenny, 8, Clint, 7, Anna, 5, and Vince, 4, are her pride and joy. Even though working together is fun, their favorite time as a family is mealtime. Erin has worked at WNAX radio for 19 years, moving from an on-air position to an online position to be home with her kids. She also owns and operates Images by Erin Photography.

What surprises you most about being a mom?

Motherhood is a wonderfully fulfilling and challenging adventure. I can never get over how different each child is from the next! The little people I welcomed into this world are just gone, but these new and wonderful children have taken their place. And before I know it, new young adults will be living with me and then comes the best part, when they grow and learn enough to become my friends.

Who has been impactful in your journey as a mother? What lessons do you carry with you and share often through motherhood?

The women in my community show me every day how different motherhood looks for each one of us, yet how connected we are through the experience of raising children. No matter how we go about our motherhood journey, our goals remain the same – to nurture and love and shape loving and kind human beings. My children are a direct reflection of me and I take pride in their kindness! And in this world of fame and recognition, Motherhood is quiet and behind the scenes, something I have grown to love and appreciate more each day.

How has being a mom shaped your life?

I always knew I wanted to be a Mom and my children have made me braver than I have ever been before. I am brave enough to try new foods and new hobbies. I am brave enough to be unapologetic if it is just a ‘jammies all day’ kind of day. I am brave enough to tell the mom next to me at the grocery store with a crying toddler that she is doing an AMAZING JOB! I am brave enough to show my children who I want to be in this world, even on days I fall short.
