About

Bio

Delores Britt-Millhouse is a transformational leader, mother, strategist, and community advocate who views motherhood as an anointing from God and a foundation for leadership. For over a decade, she has volunteered her time to champion public education, parent engagement, and youth empowerment across Prince George’s County. As founder of MaVocate, LLC, she builds systems that elevate family voice, and as a mother of two bilingual children, she co-founded My Mental Shine and Lingo with Us to support youth mental health and bilingual advocacy. Delores led the grassroots movement that brought language immersion to over 20,000 students and helped pass Maryland’s Seal of Biliteracy Act. She serves as Chair of the PGCPS Parent and Community Advisory Council and on Senator Nick Charles’ Youth Engagement Committee. Through her tireless service, she has helped thousands of families be seen, heard, and supported and believes that motherhood is one of the most powerful platforms for change.

Parenting Philosophy

My parenting philosophy is simple: I will either raise changemakers or risk stealing their dreams. I choose every day to raise children who believe they matter, who know their voice has power, and who are not afraid to take up space. Motherhood is an anointing a sacred assignment that requires presence, truth, and purpose. I practice conscious, mindful parenting, staying aware of how I show up. I believe that how I lead, listen, and heal directly shapes my children’s ability to do the same. If I’m not committed to becoming the best version of myself, how can I expect my children to grow into who they’re meant to be? I focus on the process, not just the outcome. We use tools like our “catch and release” strategy created by my son and I to navigate emotions, regulate responses, and name what’s true. My parenting prioritizes emotional safety, critical thinking, and spiritual grounding. That same philosophy extends to my community. The way I lead my children is how I lead my advocacy by creating space for voices to be heard, for families to grow, and for systems to reflect the people they serve. Through grassroots organizing, district leadership, and youth-driven initiatives like My Mental Shine and My Bilingual Child, I use my lived experience as a mother to help others rise. Parenting is my greatest leadership role. Every day I mother with intention, I help repair what the world has broken and help build what hasn’t yet existed.

Motherhood and Community

Over the last 10+ years, I’ve committed myself to work that not only transforms systems but transforms families, including my own. These three experiences have shaped the way I mother, lead, and serve, and together they reflect my belief that when we empower families, we shift generations. My advocacy for language immersion in Prince George’s County began as a personal mission to raise bilingual children as a monolingual mother. That desire evolved into My Bilingual Child, a grassroots movement that pushed the school district to expand access to dual-language programs. Today, families who once lacked options especially Black and brown families now raise bilingual, biliterate children who can serve globally without language being a barrier. My children have traveled and volunteered abroad, stepping into the world with cultural humility, confidence, and fluency that opened doors I never had. That’s the power of access. As Chair of the Parent and Community Advisory Council (PCAC), I help ensure parent and community voices are at the forefront of decisions made by our school system. This role allows me to show PGCPS what it means to reimagine family engagement not as a checklist, but as a true partnership capable of transforming a school system, one household at a time. Stakeholder voices are once again elevated to inform policy, shift practice, and reflect the lived experiences of the people schools serve. My work as a certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer rounds out this journey. These trainings are building the community’s capacity to become first responders to mental health needs supporting not just crisis response, but a culture of mindfulness. This holistic approach prioritizes healing the whole person, the mind, body, and soul and it directly supports My Mental Shine, the youth-led campaign my son founded to normalize mental wellness for K–12 students. Together, these experiences have helped me raise children who lead and build communities that heal.
