Bio

Dr. Edna Grover-Bisker has dedicated her life to service, education, and family. Employed continuously since age 12, she has held diverse roles including radio DJ, Missouri Senate Communications Specialist, MoDOT Community Relations Manager, University Professor and Administrator, and International Business and Protocol Consultant. She currently teaches at Missouri University of Science and Technology, where she inspires students to define and achieve success on their own terms. Dr. Grover-Bisker earned degrees in Communications, Public Administration, and Educational Leadership, along with certifications from the Protocol School of Washington and Harvard University. A former Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, her research and teaching span communication, leadership, and education outcomes. Above all, she treasures her role as mother of three and grandmother of five. A lifelong learner, she champions Benjamin Franklin’s wisdom that “an investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”

Parenting Philosophy

My parenting philosophy begins with love and the belief that children thrive when they are encouraged to become the best version of themselves. As a mother of three and grandmother of five, I see parenting as leadership—guiding with integrity, compassion, and resilience while allowing space for independence and growth. I strive to model the values I hope to instill: kindness, perseverance, and respect for others. Education and lifelong learning are central to my approach. I encourage curiosity and remind my family that investing in knowledge is one of life’s greatest gifts. At the same time, I emphasize emotional connection—listening, affirming, and celebrating each child’s unique voice. I believe parenting is not about control, but about preparing children to flourish beyond the home, equipped with confidence and compassion to face the world. I also teach the importance of service and community, showing that fulfillment comes not only from personal success but from contributing to the well-being of others. Humor, traditions, and joy are woven into our daily lives, creating a foundation of love that sustains us through challenges. Above all, I view parenting as a lifelong exchange of growth. My children and grandchildren continue to teach me, reminding me that motherhood is both a legacy and a living journey.

Motherhood and Community

Throughout my life, I have been blessed with opportunities to serve in ways that have shaped me as a mother, grandmother, and community member. Each role I’ve embraced has not only enriched my own journey but has also created ripples of positive impact for my family and those around me. One of the most meaningful experiences has been teaching as an adjunct professor at Southwest Baptist University. In the classroom, I strive to do more than share knowledge—I work to inspire students to believe in themselves, to pursue excellence, and to discover their unique paths. Watching young people grow in confidence and purpose has been deeply rewarding, and it has reinforced my own family’s commitment to lifelong learning. My children and grandchildren see firsthand that education is not just about degrees, but about opening doors and nurturing dreams. Equally transformative has been my role as Children’s Church and Nursery Director. Guiding little ones in faith, teaching them about love, kindness, and the joy of community has been a blessing beyond measure. This work has strengthened my family’s spiritual foundation and created a nurturing environment where countless families can feel supported. The laughter, curiosity, and innocence of children remind me daily of the importance of patience, compassion, and joy in parenting and in life. Finally, my work as a protocol and etiquette consultant, teaching manners and professionalism, has allowed me to share values of respect, dignity, and inclusion. These lessons have not only helped individuals succeed in professional settings but have also fostered stronger relationships within families and communities. My own family has embraced these principles, understanding that kindness and respect are the cornerstones of meaningful connections. Together, these activities reflect my belief that service, education, and faith are the true legacies we leave behind. They have shaped me into the mother and grandmother I am today, and they continue to inspire me to live with purpose, gratitude, and love.
