Jennifer Parrish is a dedicated mother of five and a committed community advocate and leader known for her passion for service. Her work spans disability advocacy, environmental stewardship, and family support, collaborating with organizations such as the Brandywine River Restoration Trust, Turn the Towns Teal, and the American Heart Association. Her work is grounded in love for her family, her community, and her belief in building a more compassionate future.

Parenting Philosophy

Love is at the center of all that I do, and the guiding principle of how I raise my children. First and foremost, my parenting philosophy is based on love. I believe that each child must feel loved, secure, and confident in that love before all else. I want them to value their lives and embrace each moment, not only for themselves, but in ways that positively impact society and future generations. I honor each child’s individuality and foster their unique passions and dreams, whether in law, science, baking, art, ASL, or the joy of imagination and play. I guide them with love and respect, emphasizing open communication, emotional intelligence, and the power of forgiveness. Parenting children with diverse needs has strengthened my empathy, patience, and perspective, inspiring me to advocate for others while modeling courage and compassion. Through family adventures, volunteering, and everyday learning, I show my children how to embrace creativity, responsibility, and joy. My philosophy is to love unconditionally, to guide with patience, to lead by example, and to embrace life’s challenges with resilience and hope. Through family, service, faith, and purpose I aim to raise children who not only live fully, but also inspire others to do the same.

Motherhood and Community

Community involvement has been a guiding force in my life, shaping the way I contribute to my family and the wider community. Serving on my town’s Planning and Zoning Commission allows me to help guide responsible development and ensure that growth strengthens our community while maintaining its character. Participating in these decisions impacts local families and teaches my children the importance of civic engagement and thoughtful leadership. Since 2016, I have led Middletown’s Turn the Towns Teal campaign, raising awareness for ovarian cancer and uniting survivors, families, and local officials. Coordinating events and campaigns each year brings people together to honor resilience, share stories, and promote life-saving awareness. This work has allowed my family to see the value of community action and the power of people coming together to support one another. Disability advocacy is a deeply personal part of my life following my son’s autism diagnosis. I work with elected officials, environmental organizations, and autism advocates to raise awareness, improve safety in our community, and increase access to care. Presenting at county council meetings and at Legislative Hall, Delaware’s state capitol building, and supporting autism focused events has given me the opportunity to create tangible improvements for families facing similar challenges. My children have been part of this journey, learning firsthand the importance of empathy, advocacy, and persistence in making a difference. Through these experiences in local government service, leading a health awareness campaign, and disability advocacy, I have been able to strengthen my community while modeling the values of service, leadership, and compassion for my children. Each effort has reinforced my belief that dedicated involvement, even on a personal scale, can inspire change and create lasting positive impact for families and the broader community.
