United Nations

American Mothers has a long history of involvement with the United Nations dating back to 1947 when the organization sent a delegation of members to the United Nations with the intention of encouraging other nations to adopt a Mother’s Day holiday and/or a Mother of the Year® recognition program. During the 1950s, when First Lady, Mamie Eisenhower served as the Honorary Chairman of the American Mothers Committee, an international relations committee was created to follow the discussions taking place at the UN in order to raise awareness about issues impacting mothers and children around the world.

Today, American Mothers, Inc. is a registered non-governmental organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the United Nations. Members of American Mothers are able to attend high level meetings at the United Nations, including the Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), held annually in March. 

Attending the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations is a highlight of my year. It's an opportunity to learn about and share life lessons on an international level with incredible women. It's also a fabulous bonding experience for the AMI participants.
